SPACE TO COLLABORATE

We work across a wide range of sectors to create, improve and maintain workspaces that support collaboration, communication and connection.

As the role of the workplace continues to evolve, organisations are investing in destinations that bring people together and enhance the employee experience. From informal breakout areas to multi-functional collaboration hubs, we create spaces that support teamwork, strengthen culture and foster meaningful connections.

our Collaboration & Social spaces

Every organisation collaborates differently, but successful spaces create opportunities for people to connect, communicate and share knowledge.

  • Team neighbourhoods
  • Project spaces
  • Agile working environments
  • Workshop spaces
  • Informal meeting zones

Examples include:

  • Town halls
  • All-hands spaces
  • Event environments
  • Presentation areas
  • Multi-functional gathering spaces
  • Internal conference facilities

Commercial Interior Design for Oxford Ionics Project - COEL

Project In Focus:
Oxford Ionics

As Oxford Ionics scaled its quantum computing operations, the workplace needed to support both highly focused research and meaningful collaboration. Alongside specialist laboratories and technical environments, COEL created a variety of communal spaces including a town hall area, breakout spaces, meeting rooms, collaboration settings and informal touchdown areas.

These spaces give teams opportunities to connect, share ideas and solve complex challenges away from the laboratory environment, while creating an engaging workplace that reflects the company’s ambitious vision for growth.

Understanding Workplace Collaboration

For many organisations, the challenge is no longer providing enough desks. The focus is creating environments that help people connect, share knowledge, develop ideas and strengthen culture when they come together in person.

Successful collaboration environments provide a variety of settings that support both planned and spontaneous interactions, helping organisations strengthen culture, improve knowledge sharing and foster a greater sense of community.

Creating Destinations People Want to Use

When employees have greater flexibility over where they work, the workplace needs to offer something more than a desk. The most successful organisations create destinations that bring people together and support a variety of activities throughout the day. Collaboration hubs, social spaces, learning environments and town halls help organisations create workplaces that encourage interaction, strengthen relationships and support employee engagement.

Through workplace strategy, design, fit out and refurbishment projects, we help organisations create destinations that encourage attendance and support meaningful interaction.

By providing a mix of formal and informal environments, organisations can create workplaces that support different work styles while bringing people together around a shared culture and purpose.

Furniture, Flexibility & Inclusive Workplace Design

Successful collaboration spaces rely on more than layout alone. Furniture, storage and workplace settings play a vital role in how people use and experience a space.

Adaptable solutions such as bleacher seating, modular furniture and flexible meeting environments support a range of activities while allowing spaces to evolve as workplace needs change.

Alongside collaboration areas, modern workplaces also require quiet zones, focus spaces, phone booths and private meeting rooms that support different working styles. For hybrid teams, practical features such as lockers, touchdown spaces and bookable workstations help create a seamless workplace experience.

At COEL, we create collaboration environments that balance openness, flexibility and inclusivity, supporting the needs of a diverse workforce.

Sustainability, Adaptability & Long-Term Value

The most successful collaboration spaces are designed to evolve alongside the organisations that use them.

Through adaptable layouts, flexible furniture solutions and carefully considered material selection, organisations can create environments that continue to support changing ways of working long into the future.

Where appropriate, we explore opportunities to retain, refurbish and repurpose existing furniture and workplace assets, helping reduce waste while creating refreshed environments that support collaboration, community and organisational culture.

By focusing on adaptability from the outset, organisations can maximise the lifespan of their workplace investment while reducing the need for future replacement and refurbishment.
