WaveBreak (formerly Wren Therapeutics)

Wren Therapeutics strong growth led their expansion into further lab and office space within the Department of Chemistry

The design and fit-out needed to be sympathetic to the requirements of their laboratory-based research and development, as well as being sympathetic to basement environment and associated natural light levels. The laboratories received a complete overhaul, and a larger space was adopted with every aspect of their work needs being addressed. CMS provided all the furniture throughout the floorplan including new lab benching and CPMS adapted the existing ventilation and air conditioning, as well as installing a new specialist close control AC system. The work resulted in a contained, bright, clean efficient area for employees to focus on their vital research and collaborate/socialise with their colleagues.

The working space next to the laboratories, is designed and fitted out as a soft antidote to the clinical areas which require brighter lighting and a sparser layout. A board room in neutral shades and a strong feature wallcovering was constructed to create a private meeting area; whilst the rest of the office layout takes on a bold and daring look with the introduction of a dark-blue colour scheme. This injection of colour, primarily introduced in the desktops and walls, soon becomes a signature style point in the sophisticated kitchen. This communal area is designed to encourage staff interaction, with a long, elegant table centrally placed in the room and a stunning biophilic arrangement hanging overhead, positioned to softly frame the lighting. Inviting, snug areas sit to one side of the table offering the option of quieter place to sit; perfect for a tete-a-tete or for some focused time alone. Herringbone wood flooring adds an organic nod to this kitchen layout and creates as a light juxtaposition to the richness of the colour palette.

Ambient LED lighting elevates the dark blue palette throughout the floor plan; eye-catching large grey pendant lights are positioned at selected table points.

This is a working environment which takes the needs of its employees to heart and in turn provides solutions to their requirements.

The team installed a new air handling unit with a HEPA filtration system, in order to meet the clean room specification for the laboratory.

“COEL took the time to fully comprehend what we were looking for in our working environment. They understood that it was not a case of one size fits all, as the nature of our work is varied in the demands it presents. Their ability to tune into our needs was excellent, all of the work was carried out in an efficient and thorough manner. We are now a very happy team enjoying our new working space.” Luke Rajah, Head of Business Operations and Strategic Initiatives at Wren Therapeutics
