A workspace that inspires creativity

Jagex are best known for community-driven living game development, which includes the famous RuneScape. Like their games, their office design needed to hone creativity and craft, inspired by the fantasy lands they build. The office design encapsulated a fun, bold, and welcoming workspace over three floors, to attract future talent and space that would quench their thirst for innovation. Imagine hanging out at the Golden Gnome on your lunch break.

Working from a concept design, it was a real pleasure to bring this exciting scheme to life. Working closely with the client’s project team, we were able to provide a thorough office fit out service. As Project Manager at the time, the team were hard at work creating everything from a high-end technical auditorium through to the local pub, it’s not something our fit out team do every day so it was a real highlight of the project.

Campus lifestyle

Driven by a desire to break away from conventional work methods, the office design embodies innovation, fun, and a home-like atmosphere. From the university campus town hall lecture space, where TED Talk-style presentations spark creativity, to the main café and breakout area, where employees can play pool or relax and unwind, the design fosters curiosity and social interaction.

Industrial styling with a personal touch

The office embraced an industrial theme, featuring concrete-effect flooring, wood-effect wall coverings, scaffolding, and wooden cladding. Its industrial office design colour scheme combined industrial greys and blacks with vibrant splashes of colour, resulting in a contemporary and playful atmosphere. For a personalised touch, their game environment designs were used on the cushion covers to convey the creative work that was the foundation of their company culture.

An immersive gaming realm

The office design was inspired by the realms and fantasy lands created for their live gaming environments. This unique workspace captures every aspect of the team’s creativity, with elements of their stunning game environments featured throughout the reception and office areas, extending into the open spaces. This immersive experience is as unique in office design as the realms they craft in their games.

Employee wellbeing a key focus

From gaming chairs with ergonomic back support to various zones designed for relaxation or collaboration, our furniture team sourced a range of office furniture for focus, breakout, and social areas. With such a diverse and talented employee base, these zones were created to boost creativity and collaboration to drive their community-focused game development. Office benching and pub-style seating contributed to an open and collaborative atmosphere.

No expense was spared at the Cambridge HQ. The workspace features complimentary whole bean coffee machines—because let’s face it, we all need coffee as our fuel—and a dedicated Jagex café for chilling, socialising, and exploring. This office design offers everything a gaming studio needs, from soundproofed rooms for audio testing to team interaction areas and creative spaces, essential for any talented game designer.
