Our Projects
Altium is a global software company, providing innovative PCB Design Software and contributing to a green future for the electronics industry. Their goal was to bring their UK sales and R&D teams together into a space that enabled closer collaboration, whilst also making sustainable choices to futureproof their Cambridge HQ.
With more than 50 global resellers and multiple office ‘hubs’ across the world, it was important that our design team delivered a workspace which was recognizably ‘Altium’ to ensure brand consistency. From carpet detailing, to glazing and manifestations; to the tea point island, countertops and the furniture – branded touches were introduced throughout.
Our vision was to deliver a workspace that catered to the differing working styles of their sales team, as opposed to the more focused work of their researchers and was adaptable to hybrid working. We created flexibility by contrasting open plan desking with private meeting spaces, a boardroom and a tea point, as well as incorporating recreational breakout spaces and a wellness and collaboration area.
Access to natural light and fresh air is proven to promote calm and increased focus at work, so the COEL team included biophilic design elements – from planting to the choice of materials, and cleverly positioning furniture to maximise exposure to nature.
With the US team having experienced some issues with background noise during meetings, our planning process focused on improving the acoustic performance of the meeting spaces; increasing the specification of the partition and doors.
Sustainability formed a core part of the design brief we discussed with Altium, as we worked together to futureproof their space, as well as considering the longer-term impact of the materials used.
The carpets and floor coverings chosen are 100% recyclable and 50% of the furniture was reused, by consolidating pieces from the existing offices. Even the wall-mounted acoustics used in the meeting rooms are PET and carbon neutral.
