Aviation Industry Client

The client

A growing solutions-focused company in the aviation industry, the client had outgrown their small hub in Oxfordshire and required a new innovation space to meet the needs of their growing team.

The brief

Moving into what was a dated office, with a feeling of a post war officers mess, their vision was to create a contemporary, industrial feel, bringing warmth and functionality to their workspace and to have some alignment with their London office. Residing in a building with lots of industrial heritage, their workspace is within a hub of innovation and, where ground-breaking entrepreneurs and innovators converge.

With a hybrid workforce commuting from across Oxfordshire, they wanted to encourage their team to spend more time together, in a workspace that inspires collaboration and impact, all within easy access to their London office.

The solution

All 2000 sq ft was reworked by our fit-out team, who stripped out existing partitions, ceilings and meeting rooms. Our design team planned the workspace with a separate kitchen area containing a large collaboration zone, with glazing and black frame to separate from the main office, yet with the ability to see through the entire space.

Having ripped out the existing ceiling grid, we exposed the soffit to provide additional height and a nod to the industrial heritage of the building. With cable trays and exposed duct work and structure, the soffit was sprayed a rich anthracite grey to create a visual zone.

Brick slips were used to create columned structural features to coincide with the industrial look. This also provides warmth to the space and contrast to the charcoal ceilings.

A flexible office and meeting room for 4 people with 3-meter-high glazing was also created for private team updates. Whilst the kitchen and collaboration area acts as a stand-up (sprint space) for the entire team, as well as a functional tea point for breaks and lunches.

The office furniture

Having their own height adjustable desks and chairs from their previous property, their design was integrated into the remaining furniture selection. Reusing their existing furniture was not only a sustainable choice, but a money-saving benefit also.

Pods were chosen due to their visual impact, both a single phone booth and meeting pod for 2 people.

Perforated industrial metal lockers were also chosen for effective storage, available as you walk through the door.

Our team have thoroughly enjoyed collaborating with the client on this project. Their clear vision and enthusiasm for a new space where their entire team could work and collaborate has been invigorating. We’re thrilled with the result.” (Katie Oldknow, Head of Design)
