In addition to partnering with our clients to create sustainable workspaces, we consider the environmental impact of the work that we do. Charity, community and working towards a better future is everyone’s responsibility.

We’re all about making a difference and have set ourselves ambitious goals, but we can’t do it alone.
From exceeding our 2024 achievement of raising over £40,000 for charitable initiatives, through to making sustainable choices on site, and our commitment to reducing co2 emissions, we’re working with our clients, partners and suppliers to make a positive impact within our community and on the wider environment around us.

Safety
At COEL, we are very proud of our excellent health and safety record, made possible by our collaborative approach and rigorous staff training.
Giving back at COEL is part of everyone’s day. From the small things, like offering volunteer days for all our staff to take time to give back, to our company-wide commitment to having a positive impact on our community and our chosen charities.
We enjoy spending time raising money for worthy causes, with our nominated charity being The Phoenix Trust. Each year we co-host a charity cricket game against a local property company and we’re proud to say that in 2024 we raised over £27,000 which we split between LandAid and The Phoenix Trust. This year we’re on target to raise over 50k in charitable donations.
We are proud to provide support to local teams and initiatives including: Cambridge Rugby Club and Cambridge United, Cambridge Independent Science and Technology Awards and Inspirational Young Stars Awards, as well as supporting a number of local teams and sporting events.
We encourage our staff to inspire change through raising money for what they believe in. We support initiatives like MacMillan Coffee Mornings and #BrewMonday with donations going to The Samaritans and this year, we raised over £1,000 for the NHS for tea and coffee supplies for staff at Addenbrookes.
At COEL, we are committed to minimising our environmental impact through a multifaceted approach. As well as our own commitments, we prioritise sustainable design in our projects, ensuring that our buildings and spaces are energy-efficient and environmentally friendly.
Our recycling and reuse initiatives are integral to our operations, reducing waste and promoting the circular economy. As well as offering a furniture removal and recycling service, we are committed to working with our clients and partners to reduce co2 emissions and to future-proof the work that we deliver.
For clients looking to refurbish their workspaces we will advise on how they can meet sustainability standards such as bronze, silver and gold SKA Ratings. We also work with our clients to maintain BREEAM excellent standards, which may already have been achieved in the building process.
We invest in training programmes for our staff, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to implement green practices in their work. By continuously evaluating and reducing our environmental footprint, we strive to lead by example and contribute to a more sustainable future for our planet.
One of the joys of working at COEL is the relationships that we have been able to forge across our network. From our base in Cambridge, it always amazes us how friendly and interconnected the local community is. We feel privileged to be able to work with so many amazing businesses across our region to improve the lives of so many, through our charity and community initiatives.
Wherever possible we support local suppliers and our commercial team undertake rigorous checks to ensure that they share our values in terms of quality, safety and environmental impact.
We are proud to have been awarded ISO certifications for Environmental, Quality and Health & Safety Management, as well as holding a safe contractor certification.
Awarded by an independent body, these certifications reflect the quality, safety, and efficiency of our services and processes and help to reassure our customers that they’re doing business with a reputable and responsible company.
Our impact and culture teams work tirelessly to uphold these standards. Reach out to them if you want to hear more about how we’re working together to inspire change.
