Location, location, location

As a leading bioscience and technology real estate provider in the USA, BioMed Realty expanded into the UK marked Granta Park, choosing a prominent science, technology, and biopharmaceutical park located near Cambridge, as their new home. With a mission to “expand the innovation capacity of our tenants to advance human health and unleash human potential,” their workspace and marketing suite were designed to reflect that vision. A carefully executed professional design ensured their mission and brand were seamlessly integrated into the office environment.

Brand identity takes centre stage

The client’s office design heavily emphasised the company’s brand identity, incorporating their logo throughout the interior and showcasing their signature corporate colour, a striking deep Klein blue. This distinctive shade not only creates a bold visual statement but also helps to balance the natural light within the space effectively.

Using natural light to enhance design

Floor-to-ceiling windows wrap around their office, offering breath-taking views of Granta Park’s serene lake and allowing abundant daylight to flood the interior. To make the most of this natural light, glazed screening partitions were strategically incorporated into the floor plan, ensuring the internal corridors were brightly and evenly illuminated.

Blue cabinet features empty wooden shelves in an office hallway with glass walls and orange chairs, illuminated by overhead lights on a wooden floor.

Productivity, professionalism, and positivity

The colour blue is known within colour psychology to enhance productivity and focus by stimulating the mind, making it easier to concentrate. With their blue brand colour associated with professionalism and reliability, creating a trustworthy atmosphere was key to this office design.  Blue is also linked to positive qualities like loyalty, wisdom, and confidence, and the workspace fosters a positive work environment as a result.

Connections to nature

Located within a picturesque park, our designers aimed to create a strong connection to the surrounding nature. Wooden flooring flows seamlessly from the kitchen into a hallway that links private meeting rooms and a quieter open space for focused work. This area features bespoke joinery, including shelving units and cupboards, offering practical and stylish storage solutions.

Functionality that enhances collaboration

A contemporary and sophisticated kitchen occupies a central position in the main communal area, offering various zones for informal meet-ups and group gatherings. Flexible seating options, including a luxurious corner sofa and stylish bar stools, provide choices for working and help define the designated work zones. Acoustic lighting is installed above the long tables and chairs, serving the dual purpose of sound absorption and overhead illumination.
