Cambridge Science Centre’s New Home on the Cambridge Science Park

This summer we saw the opening of Cambridge Science Centre’s new home at the Trinity Centre on Cambridge Science Park. This children’s science and discovery centre engages young learners in local communities aiming to widen participation and increase diversity in STEM.

Moving into what was formerly known as the Trinity Centre conference suite, the space needed reworking and a light refurbishment to suit the needs of the Cambridge Science Centre and its young audience.

Before starting on the main commercial space, which was to be converted into the new Cambridge Science Centre, COEL was commissioned by the agent of the landlord to renovate additional rooms for other tenants to utilise.

This project entailed moving the popular on-site ‘Park Barbers’ into a newly refurbished location within the centre, in addition to painting and decorating an existing conference room.

The fit-out team then began the project to refurbish the space. This included:

  • Knocking down room partitions and dividing walls
  • Re-plastering
  • Painting and decorating in line with their brand
  • New vinyl flooring in the classrooms
  • Installation of self contained tea point

COEL pro-bono design work

As part of our aftercare and in support of our Environmental, Social, and Governance policy (ESG), our interior design team contributed to some additional pro-bono work, providing Cambridge Science Centre with design options of manifestations they might incorporate into the space.

“It was quite a challenge visualizing the space….to make it feel like it had always been a Science Centre. We were really lucky to be able to partner with COEL as they helped really bring that vision to life”

– Rebecca Porter, Head of Development, Cambridge Science Centre

Support from Cambridge Science Park

As part of their vision for growth, Cambridge Science Park is further cementing their global reputation by renewing and regenerating property, which includes the Trinity Centre.

Jane Hutchins, Director of the Cambridge Science Park told us:

“This is really important to us as we are conscious, we need to do more for our children in our local community. This centre is within walking distance of many local schools and it’s wonderful to see them getting engaged and inspired by science”

Find out more about the Cambridge Science Centre and take a look at the new finished space, which will make such a difference to the lives of young people across our community.
