Our Team
Head of Technical Services
Introducing our M&E go to, James Ward. James joined us as a Mechanical Project Manager in 2023 and has since become Head of Technical Services.
Having started out on a mechanical apprenticeship I became a Plumbing & Heating Engineer, moving into Mechanical Project Engineering Roles, PM roles and now a Head of Department role overseeing & assisting with procurement, installation and commissioning, from project lead up to delivery and handover.
I’m responsible for the technical aspects of all COEL design and build projects. This includes managing design, equipment selection, risk management, tendering and procurement, program and delivery planning, and ensuring compliance with applicable MEP standards.
Father of two. I enjoy socialising, football and Hyrox. I also like to get out a few times a week to do long runs in the Cambridgeshire countryside.
James is a highly skilled and passionate mechanical engineering professional, responsible for overseeing and managing high-value commercial projects at COEL. His expertise lies in meticulously scrutinising laboratory projects, collaborating with pharmaceutical, biotech, and life science companies to plan and install laboratories, clean rooms, and research facilities.
With extensive mechanical experience spanning government and defence projects, data infrastructure, universities, schools, NHS and hospital works, auditoriums, libraries and leisure facilities, James brings a wealth of technical knowledge to office and lab design and installation. In addition to earning his BTEC HVAC Level 3 and NVQ 3 in Mechanical Services, James holds SMSTS and CSCS Black Management certifications, along with First Aid accreditation and Asbestos Awareness training.
